Five Dartmouth seniors are spending the Winter Term in Guatemala where they are making geologic maps of the capital city area. All are participating in a new honors program in the Department of Earth Sciences, under the direction of Prof. Richard E. Stoiber '32. The work of the students, being done in cooperation with the Guatemalan government, is independent of any U. S. government programs there.
The Guatemala City area is a fault valley, and the Dartmouth project will map it geologically for the first time. The results will help answer problems of underground water supply for the city.
