THE MAGAZINE'S YEAR
AUGUST 1929

The closing issue of the Alumni Magazine for the year prompts a brief comment. During the period covered, the publication has been sent forth in a new form, differing greatly in appearance from that which had been employed for many years preceding, mainly as an experiment which could be abandoned if it seemed wise to do that. The editors have heard no expression of opinion which leads them to believe that any considerable number of alumni desire the old format to be reinstated. On the contrary, the consensus appears to be that the present style is a distinct improvement; and while it has, like everything else, some defects, it is still preferable to most readers to the gray-covered publication which had been issued previously to the current year. It is therefore expected that next year's issues will follow in the main the style used during 1928-9, as more attractive outwardly and at least equally agreeable inwardly.

One new feature added during the current year has been the department devoted to letters to the editorsa development that has long been contemplated but never before put into such successful operation. We would renew our suggestion that alumni who may be interested to do so make every reasonable use of this department, whether by way of constructive criticism or discriminating approval.

A word of appreciation ought to be appended also for the energetic and intelligent work done during the year by the Managing Editor fro tem., Professor Eric P. Kelly, who consented to undertake the difficult assignment of inaugurating the New MAGAZINE and who will continue as a member of the staff.
