The Dartmouth Attack
November, 1930

The Dartmouth attack of this year started off as a replica of last year's offense, and most of the observers wondered if Morton were again to carry the burden On alone. During the Norwich game, the plays all went to Morton and an occasional reverse allowed the halfbacks to carry the ball, but from all appearances it was the old system which carried Marsters to the heights the year before.

But with subsequent games, the attack was varied. Cannell developed reverse plays in profusion, which turned Shep Wolff into a ball carrier and allowed this man who did not score a point all last season to rip off substantial gains against both Bates and B. U. Wolff, rounding out his last year on the varsity has been a player little appreciated, and it is freely predicted that this season will see Wolff at his best, for his passes are a little more true and his running a little more sure than ever before.

But new faces were brought to light against B. U., and Ward Donner was one of these. Third string back on the freshman team last year, Donner at present is slated to start against Columbia and his work on passes stamps him as a fine receiver. Then there is Bob Wilkin, the sophomore star who pummelled the Navy line in the closing minutes of that terrible freeze-out in Philadelphia last November. Wilkin is also slated to start against Columbia as a fullback.

Possibly new blood and new enthusiasm will make Dartmouth a great team this year. With no Al Marsters to dash through to the crucial points, Dartmouth must rely on an eleven man unit to win the football games, and this diversity of responsibility will make or break the team. It is a hard team to scout with so many potential ball carriers and scorers, and as we looked over the Eastern scoring chart this morning we see that no less than 13 Green players have scored with only three games played!
