The first event of importance after our last report to the MAGAZINE was the wonderful luncheon and bridge party given by Doc and Mrs. O'Connor on Saturday, May 9, at the Central Park Casino. It was certainly a treat if there ever was one, and we are all most grateful for this yearly opportunity for a 1912 gathering. Those noted as present were Dick and Mrs. Remsen, Irv Goss and Mrs. Goss, Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle, Ed and Mrs. Mitchell, Fred Goodrich, Carl and Mrs. Rollins, Hal Freund and Mrs. Freund, Jim and Mrs. Erwin, Wally Jones, Fred and Mrs. Day, Dick Plumer and Mrs. Plumer, Ed McCarthy, A 1 and Mrs. Eiseman, Cliff Suggatt, Jogger and Mrs. Elcock, Mert Baker and Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Leslie Snow, Doc and Mrs. Wooster, Manuel Garcia, and Hutch and Mrs. Biery. A delightful luncheon in a beautifully decorated room at the Central Park Casino was followed by a real old-fashioned gathering with songs and everything.
Through a fine letter from Pike Childs we are advised that "one more member of the glorious class of 1912 has made the grade in these anxious times." It is none other than James Bartlett Griffin, who was appointed and confirmed as judge of the Newmarket Municipal Court. Grif is a Harvard lawyer 1916, a past commander of Robert G. Dur gin Post No. 67 of Newmarket, and succeeds Alvah H. Place. The news clipping goes on to state that Grif was not an active candidate for the honor, but his name was proposed by his friends and he received wide support in town. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Judge Griffin.
Pike in his letter after telling us all about how to plant perennials and caring for the suffering public says, "I presume you already know that Harry Trapp has a similar appointment in Laconia." First we heard of it.
Another item of interest to us is the news of the appointment of Roy Frothingham as vice-president of the San Francisco Advertising Club. We are grateful to Mr. Winslow '2O, secretary of the Dartmouth Association of Northern California, for the clipping. Roy is associated with the National Broadcasting Company in San Francisco.
Several changes have been received in addresses. Nat Whitmore resides at Kings Court Apartment, South St., Auburn, N. Y. Brian Robie is at the Hotel Clayton, Sacramento, Cal. Charley Shepard is at 565 Fox St., Aurora, 111. Jogger Elcock is with the Universal Atlas Cement Cos., 135 West 42d St., New York. Lyle Chase is assistant registrar, Department of Health, 3919 John R. St., Detroit, Mich. Eddie Daley writes from 45 Kenwood St., Pittsfield, Mass.
Those of our class who are regular subscribers to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE are—we can be reasonably certain—readers of the 1912 column and in this way more or less in touch with the activities of our class, depending on the news afforded through the class secretary.
When notes are sent in to the MAGAZINE it is always with the uncomfortable realization that less than 50% of the class are subscribers and that this large number are therefore without any news—and in some eases for years at a time. Group subscription has proven unsatisfactory on account of the necessary high tax from paying members.
The ALUMNI MAGAZINE has been greatly improved. Special features during the past have been of much interest and feature articles for the year promise to maintain the high standard of the past.
This coming Commencement will see the anniversary of our Twentieth Reunion. With the co-operation of our members in sending in news from time to time we hope to have each issue of the MAGAZINE present for you an interesting column, leading up to the publication of our Report and the Reunion itself. This can only be accomplished with the support of each and every member. It will be of the greatest help to the class officers if all of our members can be reached through each issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, particularly this year, and we trust you will each not fail to send in your subscription.
The next issue will contain news items of interest which we have been able to compile over the past summer.
Your class notes will appear regularly. Subscribe for the year.
