An article of interest to Dartmouth men is "A Few Portraits in Sepia" by Edwin Rogers Embree, in the October AtlanticMonthly. A part of this article is given over to a sketch of James Burrus, born a slave, and a graduate of Fisk University. James Burrus took honors in Mathematics at Dartmouth and secured his master's degree from the College in 1879. At his death several years ago, he left his entire estate, $122,000 to Fisk University.
