McCall Gets Away
NOVEMBER 1931

Later in the period after Matal had blocked his second kick and Columbia recovered on the ten-yard line, Schwartz of the Lions went through to the three-yard line and the ball bounced out of his hands directly at Wild Bill McCall.

In our terminology McCall is a "money player" and by that term we mean that he rises to the heights when the going is toughest. This time he was off on a twisting, hipthrowing dash which took him sixty-eight yards up the field before he was stopped by the ever present Matal. And the Dartmouth attack stopped right there.

The fourth period was characterized by the usual desperate flurry of forward passes which went in no particular direction and usually had too much lead. And on the final play of the period Montgomery caught one of Fishman's tosses on the Dartmouth thirty-five yard line and wove his way for the third touchdown all the way to the goal.

It may be the making of the Dartmouth team. It may mean that Dartmouth, set back fairly and squarely, will start to play inspired football against Harvard and Yale, but it also may mean that the Green is not to be counted upon this season as a football power. It is a puzzling situation no matter how you look at it.
