Freshman Football
DECEMBER 1931

The third successive undefeated freshman football team concluded its season November 14 with a grimly eked out 3-0 victory over a strong and threatening Princeton team on the Nassau field. It was in the third period that Captain Bill Clark neatly dropped a 40-yard placement kick over the bar for the only score of the game. The Green yearlings were grimly holding on in front of their goal line before a desperate Princeton onslaught when the final whistle blew.

On November 7 an excited crowd streamed back and forth between a muddy freshman field and a smoky gridgraph while the freshmen fought to a fierce wet Hanover tie with Harvard 0-0 and the varsity thrilled the thousands at the 33-33 drama in the Yale Bowl, all at one and the same time. This followed a 14-0 victory over Roxbury at Cheshire, Connecticut, during which the brilliant Dartmouth backs, including two substitutes, had a chance to flash their wares in scoring two touchdowns and a safety.

Captain Clark, halfback, was the star of the season. Halvorsen, Hill and Giarla, other yearling backs, turned in good records.
