After an impressive early-season showing, the Dartmouth soccer team ran into a powerful Springfield club on October 20, and after losing, 3 to 0, went downhill, losing to Harvard, Brown and Syracuse, tying Cornell, and defeating only M. I. T. The season's record included three wins, four defeats, and one tie.

The clever passing and kicking of Springfield were too much for the Indians, and the 3-0 victory of the visitors practically ruined Dartmouth's chances to capture the title in the New England Intercollegiate League. The Green booters dropped their next contest to Harvard, 4 to o, but came back on the following day to defeat M. I. T. by a 4-1 score. The Harvard contest was a scoreless affair for the first half, but three Crimson goals in the third period settled matters. The M. I. T. game was featured by the play of Woodbridge and Stuart, who scored three goals between them.

Following a 5-4 loss to Brown on November 10, the Dartmouth booters battled to a 1-1 tie with Cornell at Ithaca, and closed their season the next day by losing to Syracuse, 5 to 1. Two overtime periods failed to break the deadlock with Cornell, and the tie score was the first blemish on the record of the Red team, which was leading the North Atlantic Collegiate League by virtue of five straight wins, including two over Princeton and Pennsylvania. Dartmouth's goal was tallied by Captain Jack Shelmire. In the Syracuse contest, the score remained tied at 1-1 until the final quarter, when Hughes, a Welsh youth, went on a rampage with four goals for the Orange team.

Tommy Dent's freshman soccer club held Andover's undefeated eleven to a scoreless tie in its game at Andover on November 3. The Green yearlings failed to capitalize on a number of scoring opportunities. Davidson, Barkley, Land, and Brown starred for the 1938 booters.
