PROFESSOR F. J. A. NEEF received his first appointment to the Dartmouth faculty in 1909 as instructor in German. He rose to the rank of professor in that department of the College in 1923. He has since given up teaching to become director of Personnel Research. A more recent addition to his many duties is the assignment to his capable administration the awarding of all scholarships and loans. The new plan of making these awards is described by Professor Neef in this issue.
As A GRADUATE of Dartmouth in 1923 with an undergraduate background of activity in musical organizations Mr. DONALD COBLEIGH studied at the Ecole Normale de la Musique in Paris the following year. He returned to Dartmouth as a faculty member of the Department of Music in 1925 and has since played an important part in the development of the courses in the appreciation of music offered at Dartmouth. Mr. Cobleigh is himself a talented pianist.
DR. JAMBS ALFRED SPALDING of the class of 1866 is an old friend whom we welcome again to these columns. His article on "Languages" proved to be one of the most popular features of THE MAGAZINE last year. He is a doctor in medical circles and is also a doctor in another right, having been given the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters by Dartmouth in 1928.
