Laurence Gould Lectures
JUNE 1932

Professor Laurence McKinley Gould, geologist and second in command of the Byrd Antarctic Expedition, gave two lectures on the Guernsey Center Moore Foundation May 15 and 16. The first was entitled "An Antarctic Sledge Journey," being a personal account of the 1500-mile polar trek made by Professor Gould and a party of five men, resulting in important geological and geographical discoveries in the territory of the Queen Maud Mountains near the South Pole. Two and one-half months were consumed in this journey. The lecture was followed by moving pictures taken by the expedition.

The second lecture, entitled "Remaking the Map of Baffin Island," recounted Gould's arctic experiences in two expeditions prior to the antarctic journey with Byrd. It was illustrated with lantern slides.

During his stay in Hanover, Professor Gould spoke before other groups on subjects of geology and exploration, including the Graduate Club, Cabin and Trail, and some of the classes in geology.
