There has been reprinted from the December, 1930, issue of the Alumni News of Syracuse University an article by Dr. Perley Oakland Place of the Latin department of the university on "Roman Vergil," commemorating the bi-millenium of the poet's birth.

On April 7 the 90th birthday of Henry H. Metcalf, father of Harry B. Metcalf and of Mrs. H. C. Pearson, was observed at his home in Concord. Mr. Metcalf is one of the oldest living graduates of the University of Michigan, where he took his degree in law in 1865, and in 1913 he received the honorary degree of Master of Arts from Dartmouth.

Superintendent of Schools A. O. Caswell of Milford, Mass., co-operated with the post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in that town in getting up an intertown spelling bee, covering that section of the Bay State.

Mrs. Charles B. Gordon was one of the sponsors of the Dartmouth concert and dance in Boston March 27 for the benefit of the scholarship fund recently established by the Dartmouth Matrons' Club.

Last February a thief carried off two overcoats from the Alton home of Dr. E. R. Wright. He was tracked and finally captured, and it turned out that he was wanted in Massachusetts for murder and in several other states for lesser crimes. So the Doctor was lucky to escape with his life, whether he got his coats back or not.

At March meeting in Surry James V. Stillings was elected town clerk.
