There is actually some solid news to convey 'his month, including a rather pointed letter to yours truly.

First, we have learned that Kevin Chittim married Valerie Ann Wabrek in Manchester, Conn., last November. Val had graduated from Marietta College. The honeymoon was to happen in Guadeloupe. Kevin and Val plan to live in Ailston, Mass.

Doug Webber tells us that he earned an M.D. from the University of California at Davis and has begun a Family Practice Residency at the U of Utah. Doug is "looking forward to an Orthopedics rotation at Snowbird Clinic!" Then he adds, "I don't think I'll be able to help out this year with the Fund. You probably know how residencies are." Little does Doug know that no one escapes the watchful eye of TomParks. If you are strapped for cash, he does not want you to hand over your life's savings, but perhaps you can contribute a token dollar. Participation is important, too.

Now for the letter to yours truly. A Ms. Elinor I. Lipman of Brighton, Mass., wrote the following:

"Mr. Glovsky:

"I am presuming that you, as class secretary, wrote the column in the November Dartmouth Alumni Magazine to which I refer.

"You reported that 'Paul Baiocchi married Anne Maitland on August 10 .... Anne served two years at Colby Jr. and followed up with two more at Boston University, which in its munificence bestowed upon her a bachelor(ette)'s degree ....'

"Now, an intelligent person could interpret this reference to Anne Maitland's credentials several ways:

"Perhaps 1) you know her personally and want all readers to infer that she is a feather- brain and could only earn a degree with the aid of some munificence; or 2) Boston University confers a special diminutive degree on its female graduates, designated by the ever-cute suffix 'ette;' or 3) you are engaging in a little locker-room machismo for the benefit of your classmates, straining to be clever and one of the boys, but succeeding only in male chauvinism.

"I am sure that you also succeeded in insulting and embarassing Anne Maitland and Paul Baiocchi, as well as every other in- telligent reader who read [sic] your column.

"If you graduated in 1969, Mr. Glovsky, I think you're young enough to know better and to have been sensitized somewhere along the road to your secretarial responsibilities.

"And in case it matters, I don't know the couple in question nor have I ever attended Colby Jr. or B.U. I simply picked up a friend's Alumnae [sic] Magazine and found your sterling example of sexist journalism.

"Very truly yours, "Elinor I. Lipman"

While I do not know Anne, I do have a recollection of Paul which tells me that an apology is not called for. However, if Anne or Paul, or anyone else, has been insulted by anything appearing in this space, I do apologize. The column is meant to inform and amuse, not irritate.

Nevertheless, to show that I am not com- pletely humbled, I quote from the newsclip of the Chittim-Wabrek wedding, a photostat of which I have received:

"The bride wore a Qiana knit jersey gown trimmed with Venice lace. Her matching veil was caught to a headdress of matching lace and pearls. She carried gardenias and white roses fashioned with her mother's bridal ribbon."
