The Springfield Evening Union in its issue of March 18 contains the following important announcement:

"J. Frank Drake, former secretary of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, when it was known as the Board of Trade, was this morning elected president of the Gulf Oil Corporation of Pennsylvania, which controls the Gulf Refining Company. The election took place at the annual meeting of the corporation in Pittsburgh, Pa. Mr. Drake succeeds W. L. Mellon, who was elected to the chairmanship of the board of directors. The concern is one of the largest six companies in the world.

"His rise in the financial world has been rapid under the guiding hand of the Andrew W. Mellon interests. He has been president of ten of the Mellon subsidiary companies, including the Pullman Companies and the Standard Steel Car Company. Mr. Drake will resign the position of chairman of Pullman, Inc., at the end of the month, but will continue as a member of theboard of Pullman, Inc., and of the Pullman Company. With his latest promotion, Mr. Drake now heads a concern which has $750,000,000 assets."
