The cablegram sent by Edward Tuck '62, Dartmouth's greatest benefactor, on the occasion of the luncheon, said:
Paris, June 14, 1931
"On this distinguished occasion of the Fifteenth Anniversary of President Hopkins' leadership of Dartmouth and the Thirtieth of his graduation from the College, also incidentally on the Seventieth, less one, of my own, I wish to communicate to him and to you all assembled in celebration, my pride and joy at the splendid degree of eminence in accomplishment and in fame to which the President has brought our Alma Mater. I envy you young men, both Trustees and Alumni, the privilege of personally expressing to him tomorrow the admiration and affection which we all feel. I shall be with you in spirit and shall drink to the health of your Chief."
