Charles, assistant claim agent of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co., retired August first, after nearly twenty-six years' service with the company; and on the date of his retirement he wlas the guest of the members of his department at the Sandy Burr Country Club. The afternoon was spent at golf, and the play was topped off by an excellent dinner at which Mr. Charles was made aware of the esteem in which he is held by his former colleagues in the claim department. A leather-bound volume of letters from his many friends throughout the company was presented him, as well as a smoking stand, pipe, and leather brief-case by his associates. From his friends in the other departments of the company, Mr. Charles was presented with a purse of gold. Mrs. Charles, who due to illness was unable to attend, received a large basket of flowers from the group. After dinner songs and dancing were enjoyed until a late hour, and the day will be a memorable one both to the guest of honor and his friends who met to do him honor.
