Although complete returns on the names of all Dartmouth men who ran for political office November 8 are not available the somewhat scattered information follows:

Arthur G. Spear '07 who ran for Republican nomination for Governor of Maine was defeated in the primaries.

Harold K. Davison '15 was a Republican primary candidate in New Hampshire, being defeated for representative of Congress by former Governor Charles W. Tobey, Hon. A.M.

New Hampshire

In the November 8 elections Senator George H. Moses '90, Republican, was defeated for re-election by Fred H. Brown '03, Democrat, former Governor.

Congressman William N. Rogers '15, Democrat, was reelected to the National House.

Governor John G. Winant, Hon. A.M., Republican, was elected Governor by a plurality in excess of 15,000 more than President Hoover's slight margin over President-elect Roosevelt in the state.

Former Governor Charles W. Tobey, Hon. A.M., Republican, was successful in his campaign for the National House.

Dartmouth men elected to the StateSenate: Austin L. F. Calef '93, William F. Whitcomb '96, Arthur P. Gale '04, and Ralph H. George '16.

To the New Hampshire General Court(House of Representatives): Dr. Charles B. Drake, Med. '83, William I. Richardson '88, Edgar H. Hunter '01, Joseph B. Perley '05, George W. Boynton '06, and George E. Clark '17.

Prof. Curtis H. Page, Hon. A.M., was nominated and elected by both parties in Gilmanton.

Vermont

Charles M. Smith '91, Republican, was elected Lt. Governor of Vermont.

Ozias D. Mathewson '90 was elected to the House of Representatives.

The following reelections in this state are noted: William S. Dana '71 as assistant judge, Windsor County; Frederick C. Southgate '74, Edward Griffith '93, and Ephraim J. Smith '06 as probate judges.

Other Items

Among elections in other states it is known that Russell D. Chase '15, Republican, was elected State Senator from the First Hampden District, Mass.

Howard W. Alcorn '23 was elected to the Connecticut Senate from the seventh district. Mr. Alcorn has previously been speaker of the House of Representatives.

A national political figure in the class of 1900 is Robert Jackson who has served for several months as secretary of the National Democratic Committee.
