The Dartmouth soccer team, under the coaching of Tommy Dent, came into its own this month with surprisingly good performances. They started the ball rolling by tying Harvard 4-4 down at Cambridge, and followed this game up with victories over Princeton 4-1 and Brown by the same score. A defeat by a crack Springfield team was sandwiched in, the result being 4-0.
Although soccer competes with football unsuccessfully for interest during the entire season, there nevertheless has been quite a yen for the game among a certain group and it is good to see the Green at the forefront in a minor sport.
Credit must be given to the work of John Schneider in the nets, as he has been outstanding in every game, and the forward wall of Veres, Shelmire, Hitchcock, and Brabbee has done consistently good work. The next issue will carry the full awards to these men on the team and their mates.
The Princeton game was the outstanding contest in Hanover, and this tilt saw Dartmouth jump into a two goal lead in the first period when Al Kline and Bob Veres both found the net. John Shelmire and Lefty Brabbee made the other scores and Princeton averted a shutout by a goal by Blanchard.
