I make only a few suggestions for next year. Southern California's phenomenal success in the past has been, according to Howard Jones, due to the fact that the U. S. C. forward wall is made up almost exclusively of former halfbacks. That is one of the reasons why the Trojan interference is so fast; Dartmouth might well take a lesson from the Coast and make over some of the excess backfield material which is on her hands next fall.
The other trouble with Dartmouth is faulty blocking and faulty use of the fundamentals of the game. I don't know what can be done about this. Arguing in the huddle might be stopped by having the quarterback remain outside until the last second, and then dash in and call the play. Several teams do this.
But X salute the Association of Northern California for the very fine transcript of a letter which Abe Winslow sent me. It is addressed to Jack Cannell and pledges the faith of this association to him no matter what the result of the season might be. It was written in the true Dartmouth spirit, and we can never have cooperation and respect for the coaches if there are continual dissenting votes coming in. The drab season certainly can't all be laid at the doorstep of Jack Cannell.
