DARTMOUTH'S OLYMPIC PROSPECTS at Los Angeles next month seem dependent on Montgomery Wells '28, former Intercollegiate champion, present Canadian champion, and holder of several worlds' hurdle records. Two of Coach Harry Hillman's previous pupils have won Olympic hurdle titles—Earl Thomson '20 at 110 metres, and Morgan Taylor ex '25 at 400 metres. Monty, our latest hope, did not meet defeat last winter. In January he equalled, for the 18th time, his own world record of 5 4-5 seconds in the 45-yard high hurdles at the B.A.A. meet. Later, in New York, he beat Percy Beard, admittedly this country's best hurdling prospect. Then, in March, he won two races in Canada, equalling the world's record and breaking the Canadian record for the 60-yard high hurdles in 7 4-10 seconds.

Eight years of college and club competition should aid Monty materially in his quest for Olympic honors. He now views his chances philosophically and says, "Run your own race and if enough of the other fellows fall down, you'll win."
