JUNE 1932

Give a lot of credit to this fellow Boisseau. To work in three games in two days is quite a task but he had a lion's heart for his work. Roald Morton was a much improved ball player at first base during all of these games, and he has hit the ball at a .395 clip to date. But when Barber recuperated from his ankle injury, Tesreau put him back at first base, and moved Morton again to second. Chesnulevich, who had played through four games, had a batting average of .333 and looked capable, but Morton and Barber had outslugged him at the bat.

Princeton came to Hanover May 13 and sent Capt. Shorty Bowman against the Green. Bowman had been out of action with a case of mumps, and he lasted just four innings. In the fourth the Indians batted around to score eight runs with Morton, Mack and Barber leading the assault. Barber was hitting the ball at a savage clip and as this is written he leads the League with a .550 average. Again Way Thompson took up the pitching duties, and turned in an easy performance, Princeton's eight hits doing little damage. Thompson has a record of two wins and no losses, although two of his games which he started were unsuccessfully finished by Boisseau, who took both losses.

Columbia came back to Hanover the following day, and the Green blew up with a detonation that could be heard round the League. In two huge innings, during which the Lions scored ten runs, the ball game was completely lost, for this lead made Ray White invincible and he gave Dartmouth five scattered hits. Barber was the only Dartmouth player who hit twice, but his ragged fielding was costly at first base.

So Dartmouth at present is neither good nor bad, and holds a 4-4 standing in the League. The team of course has played a schedule of exclusively League games, with the exception of a seven inning contest against St. Michael's which was not particularly interesting, although Dartmouth won 3-0 behind the pitching of Miller. Miller is the only new addition to the staff this year and he has been very unsteady. He was touched for six runs in one inning in the Columbia game, and then pitched impressive baseball for the remainder of the Contest.

Dartmouth as a team is hitting for an even .300, but this average was only attained through the efforts of a few players. Barber, Morton, Chesnulevich and Mack are the only men in the .300 class who are regulars, exclusive of pitchers Boisseau and Thompson who have only had a few times at bat to compile their unusually high averages.

We have come to an agreement with our linotyper (or is it monotype?) and so the box scores are appended for the League games for those who like to peruse or save such things. There is no better scoring system which is employed than in this League, and much is due to the efforts of William J. Chipman, the official statistician, who put hours of work into his job. Bill's work is better than the Big Leagues!
