News of a bequest of $33,000 from the late T. Julien Silsby to Dartmouth College was carried in the newspapers of late August. This amount constituted the entire estate of Mr. Silsby, who died August 7 in Watertown, Massachusetts.

Long a devoted friend of the College, Mr. Silsby was not a graduate, but was the grandson of a graduate, Ozias Silsby, of the class of 1785. The money which Mr. Silsby has given to the College carries with it the intention of commemorating his grandfather's name.

Born July 29, 1848, in South Boston, Massachusetts, Julien Silsby was graduated from the public schools of Boston, after which he became associated with his father in the manufacture of cordage and rope machinery. Following the death of his father in 1899 and of his mother six years later, Mr. Silsby became a world traveler. During the latter years of his life he made his home at the. Boston City Club, but in 1928, when his health began to fail, he moved to "The Riverton," a nursing home in Watertown, Massachusetts, where he died at the age of eighty-five. He was a 33d degree Mason and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Another recent bequest to the College is that of the late Wesley G. Carr 'B4, of Worcester, Massachusetts, who died September 4, leaving $3,000 in trust, the income to be paid to the Alumni Fund as long as a member of the class of 1884 shall live. At the death of the last surviving member, the principal of the trust fund is to be turned over to the 1884 class loan fund.
