Prof. Nelson L. Smith of the department of economics has been appointed to the Public Service Commission of the State of New Hampshire. Governor Winant announced the appointment Sept. 14, following ratification by his Council. The term of office is four years, necessitating Professor Smith's withdrawal from the faculty. He will, however, retain a connection with the College being listed as away on "leave of absence." Membership on the commission is considered to be one of the most responsible public positions in the State. The appointment comes to Professor Smith at the end of ten years of teaching at Dartmouth. He is a member of the class of 1921 and also holds a Tuck School degree, class of '22.
