GEORGE H. COLTON '35, currently Director of Development, will succeed Orton H. Hicks '21 as Vice President of the College when Mr. Hicks retires on June 30.

In his new post Mr. Colton will have administrative responsibility, under President Dickey, for the College's programs in fund raising, alumni relations, and public affairs. Mr. Hicks, who has had those duties as Vice President since 1958, will continue to serve on a part-time basis as a Special Representative of the President in alumni and fund-raising matters.

Mr. Colton joined the College's development staff in 1945 after ten years of business experience with Spool Cotton Company, the Stowell-MacGregor Corporation, and Western Electric Company. The next year he became executive head of the Dartmouth Alumni Fund, and three years later, in 1949, he was named Executive Secretary of the Development Council. He became Assistant Director of Development in 1956 and Director in 1957.

Mr. Colton is president-elect of the American Alumni Council and a former trustee of the National Foundation. As a Dartmouth undergraduate he was a Senior Fellow, Phi Beta Kappa, president of Green Key and Palaeopitus, varsity football manager, and a member of Phi Gamma Delta and Casque and Gauntlet.
