Medical School's impressive new quarters held the center of the Convocation stage for a time on Friday morning, September 9, when a brief "cornerstone" ceremony was held at the site. Dean Marsh Tenney '44 presided and in his opening remarks said that if one wish were granted him when the faculty and students moved in, it would be "that the building and its contents can be accepted with humility, and that perhaps we can carry over from the old those elements of morale and camaraderie and esprit de corps that distinguish a great institution from simply a collection of great departments."
The address of the occasion was delivered by Dr. Ward Darley, executive director of the Association of American Medical Colleges. It is printed in full beginning on the next page. After Dr. Darley's address, President Dickey and Trustee Harvey P. Hood 'lB took trowels in hand and spread the first mortar for setting an inscribed stone slab in the floor of the main portico. Their work was supervised by Leo Wexler, president of the Wexler Construction Company, the builders. When asked by President Dickey if he would like to hire him, Mr. Wexler laughingly replied, "I don't think so."
