Skiing equipment for Admiral Richard E. Byrd's second Antarctic Expedition, which left Boston on September 25, was provided through a gift of $300 from the Dartmouth Outing Club. With this sum the Admiral was enabled to outfit his entire party with skis for their sojourn in Little America.
In a letter of thanks to the Outing Club, Admiral Byrd declared that skis were a very essential item for the expedition and that he could think of no more appropriate gift which could come from Hanover. He promised the Dartmouth club that he would bring back to it a pair of skis which will have had actual use in Little America.
