The Dartmouth Athletic Council adopted the following resolution in tribute to Joe Gilman '05, at a meeting held soon after his death September 15:
"The members of the Dartmouth College Athletic Council desire to expresstheir feeling of sorrow in the passing ofJoseph T. Gilman, their appreciation ofhis services to the Council and to Dartmouth, and their personal affection forhim.
"During his undergraduate days Joe Gilman was an outstanding member of thevarsity football teams of 1902, 1903, and1904. Throughout his life this love of sportcontinued, and his varied activities asplayer, coach, and manager, coupled withextensive business interests made him ofthe greatest value to the Athletic Council.First elected to the Council in 1919, heserved for six years; during the last fourof these years as President. In the difficultyears following the World War his influence was always for wise expansion offacilities, for an enlarged program of activities, and for clean, vigorous, amateursport. Again elected in 1931, although immersed in many business activities, andalthough beset by ill health, he gave liberally and courageously of his time andstrength.
