Judge John Eliot Allen '94 was recently appointed chief justice of the Supreme Court of New Hampshire by Governor Winant. Judge Allen, who resides in Keene, has been a justice of the state supreme court for the past ten years and has been on the bench continuously since 1917, the year of his appointment to the superior court.

Judge Allen entered Harvard Law School following his graduation from Dartmouth and received his degree there in 1897. In that year he started the practice of law in Keene, and in 1900 he became judge of probate in Cheshire County. He is a member of the American Bar Association and of the New Hampshire Bar Association.
