The sports writers who were on hand for the game were unanimous in their praise of the team's snap, precision and business-like carrying out of assignments. The blocking was unusually good for an early game, and the team worked as a well-knit, fast-moving unit. Perhaps the most impressive thing about the whole performance was the consistency of the Big Green attack. Other Norwich games have seen the Dartmouth eleven brilliant in snatches, but this year's club provided a continuous rather than sporadic offense.

Among the writers who helped fill Dean Chamberlin's press box (enlarged at last) were Bill Cunningham of The BostonPost, Stanley Woodward of The New YorkHerald-Tribune, George Carens of TheBoston Transcript, Melville Webb of The Boston Globe, and Arthur Sampson of The Boston Herald. All hands were agreed that the contest was one of the best opening-game performances that they had ever witnessed.

The Vermont game the following weekend again brought rain. The freshmen went through their sodden Delta Alpha antics, but the introduction of the silver satin pants was again postponed. A sizable crowd was neverthless on hand, and was rewarded in the second half by a stop in the downpour.

The Dartmouth attack blossomed forth a little more than in the Norwich game, and the first pass of the season incomplete, at that made its appearance. Five touchdowns gave the Indians a 32-0 decision over the Vermonters, who put up a stouter defense than the Cadets and held the home team to a scoreless first quarter. Reverses and spinners were used more freely by Coach Blaik's charges, and the Big Green performance was again, on the whole, impressive.

Chamberlain was injured during the first quarter and was replaced by Rand. Conti and Rand divided the ball-carrying honors between them, the two light-weight backs reeling off yard after yard behind two and three-man interference. Conti scored twice, once after a dash of 35 yards, and the remaining scores were contributed by Handrahan, Geniawicz and Gene Burnkrant, substitute for Conti. The Indians made 23 first downs to none for Vermont, and gained 387 yards to 10 for the visitors.
