Cube Cabin Destroyed
February 1934

The complete destruction by fire of Cube Cabin during the Christmas vacation was a serious loss to the Dartmouth Outing Club. The cabin was unoccupied the night of the fire, and from the appearance of the chimney it seems that the fire was caused by a chimney crack which let the fire of the previous day out against the kitchen partition. The Outing Club hopes to rebuild the cabin when funds can be raised, and for the present the Bait and Bullet cabin will be fitted for temporary use.

Cube was the second cabin built by the Outing Club. In 1913 a tract of 27 acres was purchased with funds provided by John E. Johnson '66, and the cabin was completed in December of the same year, funds for the building being raised by Franklin P. Shumway of Boston.

Cube has always been a favorite summer resort of members of the faculty and their wives, the students having complete use of the cabin during the college year. It is one of the most accessible of all the D. O. C. cabins for short overnight trips, and the Outing Club will make every effort to restore it as soon as possible.
