Alumni Carnival
March 1934

A large number of alumni were in Hanover over the week-end of February 24-25 for the first winter carnival held by the recently formed Dartmouth Alumni Outing Club. The expedition on Sunday to Jobildunk Ravine, the home of the new club, was the highlight of the week-end. Busses left the Hanover Inn at 8:30 Sunday morning, and after an overland ski jaunt from the auto road to the Ravine Camp, all hands were served a barbecue lunch on the new ski trail, with Otto Schniebs as master of ceremonies. Following lunch, ski races for undergraduates, alumni, ladies, and children were run off under the direction of John W. McCrillis '19, chairman of the Alumni Outing Club ski committee.

The alumni carnival officially opened on Thursday, February 22, with skiing competition for children, but most of the guests were in Hanover only for Saturday and Sunday. In addition to general skiing and skating, the Dartmouth-Princeton hockey game, the Dartmouth-Columbia basketball game, the Dartmouth-New Hampshire track meet, and a community dance in the Little Theatre made a full program for Saturday.

A special excursion to Hanover on Sunday, February 18, was run by the Dartmouth Outing Club of Boston, and approximately 350 visitors were in town for skiing and skating. President and Mrs. Hopkins entertained a large number of the Boston alumni at tea during the afternoon.
