When we arrived club members were still doing what one does on rainy Saturday afternoons at country clubs even though the rain had rolled off to the west and the sun was brilliant. Very soon, though, New Jersey's Dartmouth delegation began to wheel up the driveway and move in; so that by six-thirty of April 7 the Essex County Country Club was all Dartmouth. In an upstairs room an oyster bar and a cocktail bar were rapidly crowded with members of every class from all over the state. Much to our surprise we discovered that golf champion Doc Braun '15 was also a piano champion, perhaps better, so that songs started and slowly achieved mellow tones. By the time that this had reached a certain point the dining room staff was ready for us with their usual excellent dinner.

As soon as the coffee appeared President Plumer '12 appointed as nominating committee Brant Wallace '26, Gus Perkins '21, and Charlie Bishop '26—these gentlemen retiring to deliberate. Our first speaker was Judge Jim Erwin '12, a chronicler of history who claimed to have witnessed each event from the famous apple episode on down through the ages to the New Deal. At least he evidenced an intimate, if embellished, knowledge of off-the-record history. At this point the nominating committee returned to submit the following slate: President, H. P. Jackson '10; vice-president, C. W. Tobin '10: treasurer, J. A. Rippel '23; secretary, J. G. Hodge Jr. '29; assistant secretary, G. E. Wiedenmayer '29: board of governors, K. W. Koeniger '07, chairman, M. Stearns 'OB, T. L. Barnes '02, C. E. Griffith '05, W. J. Minsch '07, T. W. Streeter '04, E. D. Towler '17, A. D. Arnold '93, W. L. Hetfield III '29, R. F. Cutler '10, G. M. Hubbard '02, R. C. Plumer '12; activities chairman, J. A. Davis '27. No other nominations being offered, this ticket was unanimously accepted.

The newly elected president, Harold Jackson '10. developed in a few words his hopes for the future of our organization and its value to the College as an integrated alumni group. After this Dick Plumer took over again to introduce a welcome guest, King Woodbridge '04, president of the New York Club.

It seemed particularly appropriate that the next introductions should be offered by Clarke Tobin '10, so he called on coaches Ellinger, Gustafson, and Donchess to rise for general inspection and plaudits. His next introduction was of Lawrence Perry, New York Sun columnist, who congratulated the college on their new coaching staff. Clarke then called on his own former coach, Lillard, to recall for a moment the 1909 team. Then as honored guest and chief speaker Earl Blaik told of his early impressions, and outlined the new campaign in the tones of a man who will accomplish his desires. The meeting closed with a showing of the latest Hanover news reels. This may have been the end of the formal program, but hours later a large section of the crowd was still grouped around the tap-room tables.

New Jersey alumni are hereby warned to keep a weather eye peeled for the early vernal golf game, roustabout, and general jollification coming soon at your favorite country club.
