GREEN KEY PROM
June 1934

The first Spring House Party in three years (modified) came and went and was a success in all ways. More than 500 fair guests—a number surpassing many Carnival lists—crowded into Hanover on May 4 for a two day entertainment culminating with the Green Key Prom and Glen Gray's music Saturday night. The Depression took a sock in the jaw when the Key Committee announced the largest prom turnout on record.

Any discussion of the week-end would not be complete without mention of the excellent results attending student regulation of the parties. Extending its powers of supervision to Palaeopitus even more than was done at Carnival, the Administration was rewarded with good reports from all sides. Even Police Chief Hallisey, who, it is rumored, was on his beat very early Sunday morning with a Turkish towel to catch any stray bicycle riders, had a relatively easy week-end.

Feet were tired and eyelids heavy as escorts bid their guests good-by Sunday. As Eleazar said in his column in The Dartmouth:

The melody of "Smoke Rings" dies, The swarms of Green Key Guests depart. Bright glamor of two hectic days Is gone—once more the grind must start. Like Cinderella after twelve The Gym has dropped its festive guise; Where lately lovely ladies laughed, Now husky he-men exercise. No more do bright-faced maidens come And sit, unentertained, through class, Or stroll down Main Street with escorts Who show them off to friends who pass. House Party dances seemed too short For guests, ecstatic but footsore; The trade of local restauranteurs Is back to normalcy once more. Another Green Key Prom is gone; All Hanover has settled down, And back to Vassar, Wellesley, Smith Departing trains chug out of town.

They said good-bye, they left sweet looks, Headaches and empty pocketbooks.
