The record of the Southern California boys in the undergraduate body is an impressive one and worthy of mention at this time. Out of the eighteen boys registered from Southern California, the following- have won unusual distinction:
In the class of 1935, Johnston Glavis has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship for research in chemistry at the California Institute of Technology. Dick Lauterbach was editor-in-chief of the Jack-O-Lantern. Rudy Pacht was a member of the football squad. Maurice Rapf wrote and produced several plays and, together with Budd Schulberg '36, wrote the lyrics for new musical show. Glavis and Lauterbach are members of Phi Beta Kappa.
In the class of 1936, Robert Morris is manager of football. Budd Schulberg is editor-in-chief of The Dartmouth. Kenneth Lieber is a member of Green Key.
In the class of 1937, John Merrill won his letter in football last year and looks like a sure shot for the first team this fall. He is a member of Green Key. Edward Peterson is manager of the freshman basketball team, and Harry Bamford is on The Dartmouth staff.
In the class of 1938, Bob Archibald was an outstanding player on the freshman football team. The scholastic records of Frank Newman and David Balmer were outstanding.
