Many visitors have looked in on us this summer, most of whom have made it a point to attend at least one of our regular Monday luncheons: Patterson '09, Norton '08, Adler '08, Hatch '98, Freeman '13, Colby '14, DeWitt '82, Chadwell '19, Rich '09, Kohn '30, Ellis '34, Lee '20, and (are we honored?) the efficient 1935 Alumni Fund Chairman Jack Hubbell '21.
The fall round-up started last week-end (Labor Day) when we, wives, and friends, met at Stillman Batchellor's ('05) ranch in the Redwoods at Venado, Sonoma County, for a three-day event. Eventful it was! Some slept on cots, some on the ground, some in the hammocks—Baumann '25, Smith '26, and Howes '27, respectively. Sleep was one of those minor points. The Redwood Bar proved to be a great attraction, with Head Barman Hoffman '26 at the controls. Chief Chef Batch did his stuff nobly—barbecued lamb for dinner; chops for breakfast, along with the flapjacks and New Hampshire maple syrup. On Sunday a whole pig (125 lbs.) barbecued to taste and native grown Golden Bantam Corn roasted. Assistant Chef Selden Smith '97 did well at the carving. About 35 were available to wash the dishes.
If this generates any desire to gather 'round our Western Campfire—REMEMßEß the San Francisco Bay Exposition of 1938 and plan now to attend. We'll throw another Barbecue for YOU.
