In the opinion of many, the oft-changed fraternity rushing system has at last reached its nebulous ideal. At midnight, October sth, 497 sophomores signed official pledge cards as the climax of a two-week fall rushing period. This was an all-time high for Pledge Night.
There is little disagreement about the "no contact with freshmen" phase of the present system. It seems to be unanimously accepted as a great improvement. The difference of opinion arises over the length of the fall rushing period. The big houses would rather limit it to a single week, while the smaller ones find even two weeks inadequate.
But two weeks seems to be a good compromise. Last year when the period was three weeks, the system wasn't nearly as satisfactory. In particular it made it too drawn out for the rushees.
