This is a simple little combination of letters and numbers, and yet it has proven a potent formula indeed for the morale of the Dartmouth undergraduate body, not to mention the Hanover community at large.

Ever since that memorable day in New Haven, a new spirit has pervaded the Hanover air, something apart from the ordinary mercurial tempo of football enthusiasm. A great psychopathic complex, the accumulation of decades, has suddenly been lifted from our shoulders. For the first time we know what it is to meet our Yale friends without a little of the hangdog lurking in our expressions. We have shaken off one of those mass inferiority complexes which go much deeper than is ever apparent on the surface. It is almost unbelievable that a mere football game could bring about such a renaissance.
