SOUTH ROAD
Well, the South Road man has returned home from Tilton again loaded with news.
The mills are running some better in Tilton at this writing calling in old hands again and more of them.
S. W. Currier found out while he was away that fish fried in water was no better than boiled fish.
We will put the cat story one side and talk about dogs. Herbert Wiggins, who runs a meat market in Tilton was coming home from Concord one day not long ago, and on the way he turned out for two dogs and hit a large rock and having a Franklin car broke off a piece of the frame and sprung an axle and broke a spring, all costing him about $30. He says if the roads are full of dogs he will not stop hereafter.
Cows are very high in Til ton and thereabout. S. W. Currier found one a man had to sell. Currier asked him how much milk this cow gave and he told him he did not know, but was sure they had all they wanted and the neighbors came and got what they wanted and could not tell just what amount she gave for they had never milked her clean yet.
Well, there is about 29 inches of snow on the level. I think we can get along without any more if we can get the roads broken out. Some snow for a starter.
There was a party at Mr. Rancor's one day last week, 50 being present and as usual lots of cake left over, some that was not cut. Martin Pierce could not tell who won out in the card playing but he tried to come out ahead eating cake. He had to give up for Herman Buck and Charles Abbott beat him out of sight, and he's not sure but what they are still eating.
Hunting is all the go but not much game shot as yet. Some foxes have been fired at but they only said " 'Taint I" and went along.
