Curricular changes limiting the number o£ courses which may be taken in the major study in senior year, eliminating two majors and creating one new one were announced by the Committee on Educational Policy on March 22. Beginning with the college year 1935-36, the election of courses in the major subject each semester of the senior year is limited to three in single-department majors and four in combined-department majors. The Committee also stated that two majors, Education and Graphics-Engineering, would be abolished and that one new major, Biology, would be added to the curriculum.
The limitation in the number of major courses in senior year was voted by the Committee on Educational Policy following an invesigation which showed that a large number of seniors were taking four and five courses in their major subject. The predominance of these cases occurred in the second semester of senior year, and the Committee felt that this was an "undesirable concentration in the major subject and should be remedied."
Biology has been added to the list of major subjects to enable students to combine Botany and Zoology. Each half of Biology, however, may still be taken as a separate major. Graphics-Engineering has been dropped because of the few students electing it, and Education has been discontinued as a major because, in the opinion of the Committee, "education marks emphasis on subject matter rather than on professional training in preparation for teaching."
