DETROIT CLUB MEMORIAL

Ford Whelden '25 and his Detroit Club associates have just initiated a plan to memorialize their past members, which is most original and most fitting. Whenever any member dies the Club will establish a permanent memorial in the form of a Mountain Membership at Moosilauke. An acre of land will thus be bought and deeded to the College. It's a gift that moth and rust cannot take away or thieves break through and steal. It's a part of the old countryside dear to every Dartmouth man and reserved for the pleasure of every class in College and for all alumni and friends. Even more permanent than the bricks in the Gymnasium, it will be a constant reminder of the wonderful loyalty of Dartmouth men living and dead. To one who knows the primitive charm and grandeur of Moosilauke, the Dartmouth Mountain, the gift seems all the more fitting. Detroit is to be congratulated for a plan which we hope other alumni clubs will adopt.

Special plaques will be hung on the walls of our Ravine Camp at the foot of Moosilauke in honor of each individual and of the club which makes the contribution. Two are now being made for William T. Gage '64 and Neal L. Hoskins '99, past members of the Dartmouth Club of Detroit. William Gage was a member of the Dartmouth Cavalry in 1862, while Dr. Hoskins came from Lisbon, N. H., where from his boyhood days he looked down on Moosilauke.
