The annual banquet of the Dartmouth Club of Northern New Jersey was held on April 5, 1935, at the Essex County Country Club, West Orange.
In spite of the bad weather that seems to dog the trail of these affairs the attendance ran well above iso and represented a diversified group. It seemed that nearly all the classes and geographical locations had someone on hand, and it was also pleasing to note an increase in the number of Dartmouth fathers on hand.
Following an ample welcome by the Committee in Charge of Greetings for Those Who Had Come From Some Distance and Needed To Be Warmed Up, and incidentally, filled up by a most complete dinner, the group gradually came around to the more Serious business at hand.
There might have been some lack of unanimity on charges of steamroller tactics when the new officers were nominated and elected, but if there was it quickly disappeared when Clarke W. Tobin '10, the incoming president, assumed full control. It was immediately apparent that Harold P. Jackson '10, who so competently administered the office last year, had found a worthy successor. "Rip" Heneage '07 was the first speaker and in true style he gave a clear picture of what the athletic situation is at Hanover and how it is financed. It was apparent that the plans already made public and those in the making regarding that phase of the College are to the benefit of undergraduate and alumnus alike and worthy of support.
Professor W. A. Eddy, the principal speaker of the evening, lived up to the glowing reports we have had of him in a convincing fashion. Tobin's flowing introduction included no overstatement of his abilities or his influence over the students. That both are of the highest order was fully appreciated.
Following brief remarks by King Woodbridge '04 regarding the progress of the Dartmouth Club of New York and by Tom Barnes '02, tracing the growth of our group in New Jersey, we were treated to a showing of the latest releases of the College motion pictures.
