78 Sons of Dartmouth Alumni Included in Present Freshman Class
Although smaller than the two freshman classes which preceded it, the Class of 1940 has set a new record for the number of sons of alumni in the first-year class. Seventy-eight sons of Dartmouth graduates, or two more than the previous high record set by the Class of 1938, are in this year's freshman class. This number represents exactly 12 per cent of the 650 men in the Class of 1940. The classes of alumni fathers cover an unusual span of 29 years, from 1890 to 1919, with 1910 and 1914 tied for first honors with eight sons each. Second honors go to 1909 and 1913 with seven each, followed by 1907 and 1908 with six each, 1906 and 1911 with five each, and 1915 with four. The Class of 1910 has either won or tied for first for three successive years.
