When President Hopkins marked the twentieth anniversary of his inauguration as president of Dartmouth, he was hailed in Hanover as "Twenty Years a Leader." Although not unappreciative of the President, the average undergraduate received a distinct surprise in reading the imposing list of changes in the College plant since 1916. The number of new buildings was a revelation. Continuing the steady change in the appearance of Hanover, steam shovels have interrupted sleep and study on the west side of the campus with a persistent rumble, excavating cellars for the new Phi Gamma Delta house, the Gamma Delta Chi house, and the long-looked-for dining hall beside South Mass.
The political campaign is nearing a climax. Fall Houseparties are almost as near, and botany field trips stopped two weeks ago. Again Hanover's seasonal barometers, Campion's and the Co-op, display the fall spirit of Dartmouth: windows of ski boots, flannel shirts and mackinaws, windows of white shirt fronts, glisteningblack shoes, and coats of midnight blue.
