The last issue of this magazine hadn't even got off the press before the mystery of whose wedding it was that took place in Harvard, Mass., on December at, was all cleared up. Dave Kirby, who officiated as best man, was my first informant, and the groom's mother, who was amused at the absentmindedness of her son for having sent an invitation to the reception without telling whom it was for, kindly wrote a note confirming the news from Dave. Ben Warren Drew is the groom's name, and he married Sarah Read Westcott, Smith '34, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Read Westcott of Harvard (Mass.). Mrs. Drew said in her letter that they were driving to California and back for their honeymoon, and that on their way they had stopped in Chattanooga for a very pleasant evening with Pat Williams Best Man Kirby "has just gotten a job in the business department of Yankee Network, a chain of14 radio stations covering New England.Headquarters at WNAC, Boston, where Iam stationed. Previous to this I have beenworking for about a year for the Oklahoman and Times newspapers in OklahomaCity. No kidding, New England does get inyour muscles and your brains. Oklahoma isa great place, though. It is a darn goodplace for any young fellow, and there isplenty of opportunity "

Mr. and Mrs. Otis Plainer announced the marriage of their daughter Helen Leona to Alex Christie in Fort Wayne on the 15th of December. Marve Chandler, in sending me a note on this, adds that Alex is assistant manage of the W. T. Grant store out there and that the couple is at home at 720 W. Wayne St. The bride is a graduate of Manchester College, and very attractive, from a picture in the Fort Wayne News Sentinel.

Charlie Doerr finally comes clean on the rumor we heard about him last month. "Ifeel like a terrible slacker," he writes, "onthis class news business—but the net of itall is that most of my time has been spentbuilding up to a climax where I might popa bit of news about my own future. December first Virginia Klein of St. Paul and Iannounced our engagement—this is thecause of 'it all.' We are planning to be married in April. Inasmuch as I am still working in St. Paul we shall probably live therefor a while at least. I thought it used to bethe greatest fun in the world to plan weekends with Judd—but even he agrees nowthat this marriage business has far betterpossibilities.

"Other news:

"Leon Warner has gone D.O.C. in hishardware business. He has set up a specialWinter Sports Department and is makinga real bid for the ski equipment trade fromthese hardy Scandinavians in Minnesota. He even had a Movie Day last week withOtto Schniebs' skiing pictures. To provethat his goods are right he spends mostSundays on the local ski trails freezing hisears—but that's business.

"Had a swell couple of days last monthwhen Harry Litzenberger came in town onhis annual Indian novelty peddling tour.If it wasn't for you Eastern guys who thinkthe country still belongs to the Indians,Dutch would have to give up. But as longas the copper wristbands can be made inDenver and the birch bark canoes in GrandRapids, you might as well keep your illusions and Dutch can continue to make hisfall treks.

"Had a talk with Buzz Burrows' boss theother day and asked him how it happenedthat- Siren Chocolate had gotten so steamedup with selling ideas lately. He told me thatmuch of the credit was due to Buzz—and inpassing, there have been some mightysmart ideas.

"After seeing the ghost of Hollern theother night I'm afraid to think of tellingyou New Yorkers when I might be therenext. He said he had a swell time—but youought to remember that we live a quiet life out here.

"Hank Greenleaf has been transferred tothe Children's Hospital in St. Paul for hisinterne's duties. He handles the job singlehanded, and from several reports is making a good one of it You doubtlessheard that Tom Curtis is starting his lawpractice Jack Mcßae still has hiseye on the California gal he met in Boston. In fact he spent his summer vacation on theCoast."

Further confirmation of Charlie's engagement came on a Christmas card from John Sheldon. He also noted that Steve Harwood had been made store manager of the Omaha branch of Goodyear Tire. John says he sees John Amos "Wright quite often, but not many other '32ers. Judd seems to be working very hard and rarely appears in public—Chicago's loss, all of you who have ever witnessed a Judd public appearance will agree.

Bat Collins has recently become affiliated with the law firm of Cravath, deGersdorff, Swaine, & Wood, and may be seen daily occupying a seat in the club car of the East Side subway train that leaves 86th St. at twenty of nine. He is living with Pettengill on E. 83d St. Pet tells me that Buckles McGowan recently had an article published in the lowa Law Review entitled "The Divisibility of Employment Contracts." Bat understood it and said it was a distinguished tract. Pet concurred in this view and said he was going to read it again and find out what it was all about. Incidentally George 111 is publicly announcing his annual assault on the fastnesses of Hanover. It's going to take place over Carnival. He's only missed one of them since graduation and that year he was up for spring houseparties. Ah Youth! Last year apparently he had some trouble with a dark stairway in the Bridgman Block and is going back to see what caused it.

Whit Daniels called up here the other night from where he's living on E. gist St. and seemed quite surprised that there were others of us over here too. Last summer when he got through with his teaching job in a school in Pau in the south of France he and his mother took a trip through Spain and northern Africa and then returned to New York. He is now working in the Child Education Foundation as a secretary, a teacher in the teachers' training division, and also in the children's division. The Foundation, as I got it from Whit, is a center of nursery school activities, with some affiliated schools in New York. Among other things it trains teachers for this work, and runs an advisory department for budget, management, and other matters for various nursery institutions throughout the country. Whit is interested in the administrative aspect.
