Come join in praise of bygone days and of the pioneer Who led brave men to found here then the college we hold dear. High in the hills whose beauty thrills when nature smiles serene They reared the walls of Dartmouth's halls where forests wore its green. Good Eleazar Wheelock had the faith which brings success, And the knowledge of the college spread beyond the wilderness. From far and near men journeyed here where man had scarce been seen, Forerunners of the thousands to be Wearers of the Green.
At Dartmouth's call these thousands all have given of their best, All unafraid and ne'er dismayed have met life's searching test; At Dartmouth's side, to Dartmouth's pride, have battled for the right, In Dartmouth's name, for Dartmouth's fame, have fought a gallant fight. Like Eleazar Wheelock they have all dared to essay Trails uncharted, and once started they have kept upon their way. To do and die with courage high has Dartmouth's motto been, And years have proved the courage of the Wearers of the Green.
Green stand long lines of sturdy pines in Hampshire's forests old, Green are the fields where nature yields her blessings manifold, Green too our hills that dwarf life's ills, set troubled spirits free, And ever green, with magic sheen, each Dartmouth memory. Bless Eleazar Wheelock for our heritage so fair, For the treasure in full measure he left each of us to share; To each in trust, then share we must, and sharing make it mean The world is all the richer for the Wearers of the Green.
