To the Editor: I WISH TO correct an error in the publication of my article "Notes on Samson Occom" in the February number, page 76. The name of the author of the History ofLong Island is Nathaniel S. Prime, not Prince. I am sorry my penmanship was not distinct.
I want to also add another note from a book entitled Travels in New England andNew York by Timothy Dwight, at one time President of Yale College, published in four volumes at New Haven 1821 to 1823. I quote from Volume 111, page 180. "In themorning of September 26, accompanied bySamuel Kirkland, Esq., nephew to the Rev.Mr. Kirkland, we made, an excursion toBrothertown; an Indian Settlement included in the township of Paris (Oneida Cos., N. Y.). Brothertown is a tract of land, about six miles square. Originally it belonged to the Oneidas. By them it wasgiven, and by the State of New York wasconfirmed, to a collection of Indians, wholeft Connecticut for this place under theconduct of the Rev. Samson Occom." Mr. Dwight describes the houses and farming of these Indians and other matters. The above quotation, of course, would aid in locating the place of burial of Samson Occom.
