After opening its season auspiciously with victories over Springfield and Boston University, the Dartmouth swimming team suffered three straight reverses at the hands of Princeton, 43 to 28, Army, 37 to 34, and Yale, 52 to 32. The win over Springfield was by a 50-21 margin, that over Boston University by 44-27.

The opening met with Springfield saw two Dartmouth College records broken and one New England Intercollegiate Association mark set. John Llewellyn set a new College record by winning the 150-yard backstroke in 1 minute 46 seconds, and Ed White set another when he won the 220-yard breaststroke in 2 minutes 39.6 seconds. The N. E. I. S. A. mark was set by Frank Holland of Springfield, who swam the 440-yard freestyle in 5 minutes 17.4 seconds.

The Carnival meet with Princeton produced a new pool record when Captain Bill Willey of Princeton negotiated the 150yard backstroke event in 1 minute 40 seconds. Canoune was a double winner for the Tigers in the 220 and 440 freestyle events, while first for Dartmouth were garnered by Captain Jack Smith in the dive, Jim Whitcomb in the 50-yard freestyle, and Ed White in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The meet with Army, at West Point, was not decided until the final relay event, which added 8 points to the Cadets' total. Two new Dartmouth College records were rung up by Art Sloggett in the 440-yard freestyle and White in the aoo-yard breaststroke. Jack Smith suffered his third dual meet defeat in three years at the hands of Brant in the diving event. Other Green firsts were won by Whitcomb in the 50-yard freestyle and Llewellyn in the 150-yard backstroke. ,

Records continued to fall in the Yale meet at New Haven, when Johnny Macionis of the Elis set a new intercollegiate mark of a minutes 10.6 seconds for the 220-yard freestyle. In downing Dartmouth, Yale won its 148 th consecutive dual swimming meet. The Indians chalked up their lone win of the evening in the 400-yard relay when White nosed out Ferguson in the anchor leg. Jack Smith's fourth defeat in three years of varsity competition was received when Danforth of Yale captured the dive.
