A few weeks ago the Secretary had a pleasant call from Charlie Floyd. He and his wife closed their home in Windsor, Vt., the latter part of January for an indefinite visit in the vicinity of Boston. Their present address is 12 Daniel St., Newton Center, Mass. They both have many friends in and about Boston, as they resided here for many years prior to their removal to Washington, D. C., some 20 years ago. They plan, however, to open their Windsor home early in the spring in order to get their flower garden well started, in which they both take much pleasure.
Instead of sojourning in Florida as the Secretary intimated in last month's notes he is sorry to report that Frank Whipple had an uncomfortably narrow escape from a fire which occurred on the night of February 18 in one of the buildings belonging to the Middlesex College of Medicine and Surgery located in Waltham, Mass. Frank is president of the college and was staying there at the time with an associate, Dr. John Smith. Fortunately they escaped with- out injury, although the building in which they were sleeping was practically demolished by the fire. The Secretary has written Frank for further particulars than the newspaper account gave, but he has not yet heard from him.
Al Briggs has long resided in Chelsea, Mass. Since his resignation as principal of the high school he has held many prominent and responsible civic positions in the city. At present he is chairman of the board of trustees of the Public Library, chairman of the excise commission, superintendent of public buildings, and inspector of buildings. The Secretary knows of no member of the class who is rendering, or has rendered, more active and efficient service for his home city or town.
