ABOUT MRS. WARDWELL
Biff Kelly sends the following note about the death of Ned Wardwell's wife, who was really a member of the class of 1886. The hearts of all of us are with Ned; and with Guy Wilson's family.
"Ned Wardwell has suffered a great lossin the death of his wife, which occurred atHartford, Conn., on Feb. 7,1936. They hadno children. In June, 1886, Ned broughtpretty little 18-year-old Kate Abbott of Winchester, Mass., to our Commencement, andmarried her two years later. Since then shehas been a faithful attendant at reunions, and looked forward with especial eagerness to attending her 50th next June.Though ailing and losing weight, she hadnot been considered seriously ill, but wentto the Hartford Hospital for observation. In about a week the doctors informed Nedthat she had no chance, and in a few daysshe passed peacefully away from uremicpoisoning. Ned's future plans are uncertain.Since he retired a few years ago, they haveplayed around together more than ever, spending the recent winters in St. Peters-burg, Fla. He, Ed Frost, Kelly, and theirwives celebrated New Year's 1935 togetherthere. In that and every company she was afavorite because of a sweet dispositionwhich accented her natural beauty as theyears went by. Ned will attend the reunionbecause she wanted him to, and because shewill be of that unseen company "which willbe with us in spirit on that occasion."
