After finishing a poor fourth in the Quadrangular Meet with Harvard, Yale and Cornell, Harry Hillman's track charges surprised everyone by finishing fourth in the indoor intercollegiates at New York. Carnering 12 points on the strength of performances by Tony Geniawicz, Jack Donwan, and Johnny Johnson, the Green trackmen finished behind Manhattan with 26 points, Yale with 18½, and Harvard with 173^.
Tony Geniawicz, the sole defending champion in the games, retained his intercollegiate shotput title with a heave of 49 feet 13/8 inches, his best mark of the indoor season. In winning his specialty, Geniawicz turned the tables on Duke Wood of Cornell, who had bested him in the Quadrangular Meet of the previous week. Donovan took two third places in the 50-meter dash and the 50-meter hurdles, and Johnson added a point with fifth in the 50-meter dash. Donovan had little rest between the trial heats, semi-finals, and finals of his two events, and appeared to be capable of winning either one of them. Dartmouth's other entries in the intercollegiates were Captain Lane Donovan, Dick Brister, Warren King, Jim Cuffe, and Al Eldridge.
First honors in the Quadrangular Meet, held at Boston on February 29, went to Harvard with 40 points. Cornell finished second with 321,4, Yale third with 2714, and Dartmouth fourth with 17. Milt Green of Harvard captured three first places, setting a new record of 24 feet 11/8 inches in the broad jump, tying his own record in the 45-yard high hurdles, and winning the 50-45yard dash. Dartmouth's freshman mile relay team won its event, but this did not figure in the meet scoring. The Green points were made by Tony Geniawicz's second in the shotput; Jack Donovan's second in the hurdles; Johnny Johnson's second, Jack Donovan's third, and Warren King's fourth in the 50-yard dash; the mile relay team's third place; the two-mile relay team's third place; Steve Cochrane's tie with McNab of Yale for third in the pole vault; and Eldridge's tie with three others for fourth in the high jump. In winning the shotput, Wood of Cornell bested Geniawicz by almost a foot when he hurled the 16-pound ball 4.9 feet 53/8 inches.
