Green Key, honorary junior society, voted on April 14 to present its surplus accumulations of more than $4,000 to the College for the establishment of the Green Key Student Loan Fund. This fund had been accumulated by recent delegations of the junior society and had been held for the undesignated benefit of the College by Max A. Norton '19, bursar.
On the following day Green Key announced changes in its constitution involving a reduction by ten members and new methods of nomination and election. According to Kendall Stearns '37, president of Green Key, the changes were adapted "to cut the Key to a workable size, to increase the serviceability of its members, and to eliminate the evils of discrimination in nominations."
Under the new regulations, Green Key will have a total membership of 40 men, each member to have an average of at least 2.0 and to be off probation at the time of election to the society. The Dormitory Council, newly created undergraduate body will have a representative in the society hereafter. Reductions have been made in connection with the Outing Club and winter sports group, which lose one man; the class-at-large, which has its representation lowered from ten men to seven; the Athletic Managers, who lose one man; and the Athletes, whose representation has been lowered from eleven men to five. Nominations for Green Key must hereafter be accepted by the society if they are signed by at least 25 members of the sophomore class.
The Green Key Student Loan Fund is similar to the Palaeopitus Student Loan Fund which was established by Palaeopitus in 1926 for the purpose of furnishing financial . aid to undergraduates who would otherwise be unable to meet their college expenses. It will be administered as a part of the College's regular financial aid program, which is in general charge of Professor Francis J. Neef, chairtnan of the Committee on Scholarships and Loans.
Green Key funds are now raised through the sale of freshman posters and the annual Green Key Prom, which is to be held this year on Saturday, May 2. In addition to its original function of entertaining visiting athletic teams, the society has recently undertaken the important work of orienting freshmen to college life.
